Blessings from Murthy Sir

My dear 'Children'

I thought I would say Alumni but that sounded too impersonal and drab. After all, being old enough to be called  Tata  I opted for the above mode of address.

I must tell you that I am moved by the sentiments and deep feelings that come out of each of your writings and  I realize that we have a host of people (almost an army) to stand by us in our efforts to raise the Sadan to the position of pride it used to have .

Thank you all and God bless you.
Murthy

  1. I came across this blog a few days back and was so happy to see so many people sharing their nostalgia about our school, so I decided to write a few lines. I missed the function which was held last year. It is indeed a very good thought to bring the alumni together. Next time I'll make sure I attend.
My journey in Vanitha Sadana began with the nursery and the journey lasted for 11 long years!! Yes, I spent 11 most beautiful years of my life in Vanitha Sadana!! Thanks to my father who was very particular about his children studying in kannada medium in primary school and the fact that Vanitha Sadana was 2min walk from our house, I joined this school. This was more than a school for us. Unlike schools which pressurize students to concentrate only on exams, our school encouraged us in various extracurricular activities as well. The teachers were so friendly and they guided us so well. Even today when they see you, they stop and talk with you.
The main things I recall from my school days are the countless extracurricular activities I used to take part. Especially, kannada debate competition, which was a huge surprise to my friends and family, because no one ever expected a shy, soft spoken girl to win prizes in debate! But all thanks to Girijamba madam, who supported me when I told her I want to take part in debate competition. From then on there was no looking back. Another fun filled, yet very educative experience was being part of the science club. Those days Vyjayanthi maam used to be science club head and she encouraged us do some experiments using our innovative ideas and at the end of the year we used to feel proud to put up our experiments in the science exhibition! Another competition which I never missed was Sanskrit recitation. It was tough training under Radha miss as she could leave you till you get each and every pronunciation correct! Well I think every one will agree when I say, Radha miss took us to a different world when she taught those beautiful lessons in Sanskrit. The same thing can be said about Smt. Lokamatha, whose history lessons made me interested in social science. I used to hate that subject, but the way she explained those wars, freedom struggle etc, it made it much more interesting. Well in high school our class used to be the noisiest and yet we were scared the moment we saw HM Smt. Uma. My sister who had studied in the same school had terrorized me by telling me how strict Uma madam used to be, so I was extra scared. So much so that, I used to hesitate to meet her and tell her I won some prize!! But she was a very sweet person who never failed to appreciate you when you did well. I can never forget the fact that our PT teacher Smt. Mary used to take me in the kho kho team and used to allow me to take part in athletics competition inspite of knowing what a hopeless athlete I was!! My school life was full of such wonderful memories. There was not even a single year when I was not part of the annual day celebrations, singing, dancing or drama. It used to be so much fun. I still remember, it was Dakshayini miss who taught us to be such graceful dancers! I cannot forget 2 teachers, Smt. Bharathi, who is by far the most soft spoken and soft natured teacher I have come across. She never shouted even once and there is Smt. Nagarathna who used to teach social studies, I always used to go to these 2 teachers whenever I needed any advice. I still get to meet Vasundhara Miss and Parimala Miss and I cannot express how happy I feel to talk to those teachers. Another important part of school life was Children’s Book Council (CBC). It not only helped me cultivate the habit of reading books, but I got to take part in so many cultural activities, CBC used to conduct. I also attended a couple of summer camps which was conducted by CBC.
Every teacher of this great institution has played such an important role in my life and today whatever I am, it is because of them. I am proud to say I studied in this school and I am forever indebted to all the teachers.
    Love,
    Smitha B S
